Tours
So apparently, everyone working in the admissions office now gives phenomenal tours. Like, we all regularly get standing ovations after tours and are constantly approached by parents saying they wish they came here and/or telling us that this was the best tour they’ve been on so far. Maybe it’s just an Eph thing? But ideally, we get a lot more people applying and eventually coming.
Also, I can’t wait for the baby Ephs! Frosh! Gahhhhhh! Only like 2 more weeks and 1/4 of the school is brand new! I feel kind of icky being this excited, but they all seem like such awesome people and I really really really want to get to know them.
I should also mention a semi-awkward story from a few days ago. I was wearing a t-shirt that said “marriage is so gay.” And there was a parent from Singapore who, ummmm, didn’t really get the joke. So I ended up saying “it’s for marriage equality!” Which is totally false, but I didn’t really feel like discussing marriage as a flawed institution in the admissions waiting room. So, lesson learned: don’t wear shirts that can be easily misinterpreted, especially when you often give tours to students for whom English is a second or third language.
Which reminds me! I had a young woman from Spain on a tour today and her mom asked what the drinking age is on campus. I quickly answered that nationally, the drinking age is 21. But another woman in the tour starts scoffing and laughing and it was just really bad because she probably wasn’t paying attention when said young woman said she was from Spain. Sigh.
